8-INCH #5 - FAT WORM OF ERROR (us)

For the project FLORIDA initiated by TENT/'t Gemaal, DE PLAYER is invited to do a showcase of their activities. We will present our releases as well as two events. One of them is a 'work in progress' project in our 8-INCH series with the american strangle-B-rock band FAT WORM OF ERROR

For this version of 8-INCH FAT WORM OF ERROR will come over and work for one week on their 'thing'. They will make 50 handmade covers for he new release and prepare a specific show for the 19th to give it all a rocket. Prepare for a eclectic and (almost) chaotic but cheerfull point of view on sound and esthetic. We are alive and you will notice.

Voor deze 5de editie wordt het sterk visueel georienteerde geluidsgezelschap Fat Worm Of Error speciaal ingevlogen. Zij zullen in ‘t Gemaal een week werken aan de specifieke 8’ uitgave. Het proces en de resultaten dienen als expositie. Tegelijkertijd zal gedurende de week een setting worden gerealiseerd waarin de uitgave wordt gelanceerd. In een polymorfe presentatie op zaterdag 19 december zal dan duidelijk worden waar dit allemaal voor nodig was. FWOE zal een exclusief concert geven en een aanverwant programma geeft daarbij reden tot inkeer.

Fat Worm of Error bypassed the traditional rock and roll adventure for a trip to the land of noisemakers. Their sound is a jubilant visit to the avant world without the bitter aftertaste of pretense and self-loathing. What sounds like a pack of kindergarteners high on sugar banging away is actually the product of hard work and careful planning. Every little squelch, squeak, moan and drone serves a purpose -- the premise behind that purpose remains to be seen. Songs may sound as if a wolf has broken into the henhouse, but with each subsequent listen there's something minute and intricate to discover. Their album Pregnant Babies Pregnant with Pregnant Babies is as straightforward as an album gets. The band name and the sad-state-of-affairs album title should clue you in that this isn't an album built on a wall of melodious sound -- this is an album built on an apocalyptic death rattle as interpreted by adults living a reverted childhood.

The random placement of silly lyrics, the carefully nonchalant instrumentation, the happy-go lucky nature of Fat Worm of Error; these are the qualities that should draw your utmost attention.

8 INCH is a new series in DE PLAYER's program.

6 artists are invited to make a the limited edition (50) of specific vinyl (square 8") and printwork made by artist and DE PLAYER.

Each issue will be launched with an exhibition and a multi-disciplined live event that highlights the inspiration, concept and fetish of the artists involved. In other words, it reflects the mental state in which the original music is created.

For 2009 the series emphasizes the relation between music/sound, performance and visual art. We selected the participating artists because of the particular choices they have made in combining these different media. They combine, extract, deform, reconstruct and invent their own pasts and futures in very organic and inimitable ways. The results are always unique, rousing and provocative.

8-INCH is financially supported by Mondriaan Foundation, Fonds BKVenB Amsterdam, City of Rotterdam Department of Culture, Pact op Zuid and Vestia.
